i can tell you right now
(there’s no need to doubt)
all is lost
just consider the signs
today the clouds amassed
in a conspiracy of charcoal gray
while deadly intentions whistled in the air
and the melody makers of nature
turned mute at the sound
I think we should leave this place
go away from this desert
that’s too much a mirror of our present drought
a constant reminder spread out before us
(even if palm trees rustle in the hot wind)
perhaps we could travel overseas
to the old world which means nothing to us
there we can stare at crumbling palaces
that house dead spirits and ancient memories
(but isn’t that again too much like us)
it may be that you and i are meant to wander
to seek and never find
to bask in the glow of a distant paradise
a faraway happiness forever out of reach…
as we’ve been doing all along
